Do you want to make your product packaging look better? Or do you want to seal polyethylene bags professionally? An impulse sealer is used to seal and package polyethylene bags, and the like, which is a must-have in packaging supplies.

Compared to heat sealers, impulse sealers do not require preheating time or cooling time. Therefore, they are safer. One layer of plastic melts into another to create a strong seal by pulsing an electric current to heat the wire. The only way you can break it is to cut it or tear it.

LumBuy offers a variety of impulse sealers ranging in size from 8 inches, 12 inches, 16 inches, to 20 inches. Some models have a cutter to cut mylar tubes; others come with adjustable timers to give you the perfect experience.

What is an impulse sealer?
What is an impulse sealer? An impulse sealer is also known as an impulse heat sealer, an impulse bag sealer, a hand sealer, or a plastic sealer machine. People often use it to seal polyethylene bags and the like professionally. One layer of plastic melts into another to create a strong seal by pulsing an electric current to heat the wire.

  • Types
- Tabletop impulse sealers

- Foot-operated sealing machines (impulse foot sealers)

- Double impulse sealers

- Impulse sealers with cutters

- Automatic impulse sealers

The tabletop impulse sealer is manual, like a stapler.

The pedal sealing machine has a removable stand.

Double impulse sealers have two sealing levers and are typically used for heavy-duty jobs to bond thick plastic.

Impulse sealers with cutters attached are ideal for plastic tubes where both ends of the package need to be sealed.

Finally, automatic impulse sealers seal material continuously even when no one is using the machine. They can be programmed for temperature, material and sealing time.

How to use an impulse sealer?
Using an impulse heat sealer is very easy. You can click here to watch the video or go to https://sealers101.com/2015/07/23/refresher-course-how-to-use-a-heat-sealer/ for more information.

How does an impulse sealer work?
The impulse heat sealer can melt one layer of plastic over another to create a tight seal using short pulses of electricity. The only way to reopen it is to cut the plastic with scissors. Some heat sealers with cutters can cut through the mylar tubing.

Impulse sealer vs heat sealer: which is better?
The main difference between the two is the heat source. They both have heating elements, and they use electricity. Impulse sealers provide a few seconds of heating because they use short pulses of electricity, while constant heat sealers give a constant heat source that is much hotter than an impulse heat sealer. This allows constant heat sealers to work at higher melting points.

While they have similar functions, pulse sealers are used to seal bags with lower melting points, while constant heat sealers can seal bags with higher melting points. Typically, pulse sealers seal polyethylene bags, while constant sealers can seal polyimide film, cellophane bags, aluminium foil and mylar bags, to name a few.

In addition to the different heat sources, they are available in different sealing widths and lengths and in manual or automatic machines.

How to repair an impulse sealer?
This impulse sealer troubleshooting guide helps you solve the most common problems. Impulse sealers work similarly. If it has a problem, you can check the following impulse sealer spare parts: microswitch, heating element, mounting spring, PTFE cap, PTFE adhesive, timer, etc. You can also buy replacement parts online in advance. So you can change the broken impulse sealer parts as soon as possible. Some stores also provide impulse sealer repair kits.

  • Impulse Sealer Elements
Wires (flat or round) are used to seal or cut bags. Remove the PTFE cover and inspect the wires for bends, breaks or discoloration.

  • Polytetrafluoroethylene adhesive
The adhesive is the barrier between the heating element and the body. It should extend 1/2" beyond the sealing area on both sides. Whenever you replace the element, the seal must be replaced. If the heating element burns through the adhesive and arcs on the body, the element will break off and destroy the timer.

  • Teflon Covers
The Teflon cover must be intact. Otherwise, the plastic bag will stick to the element. You'd better replace the cover before it wears out.

  • Listen for "click"
When pushing the lever down, it will make a "click" sound. If it does not, try the following steps.

1. Manual Impulse Sealer

Slightly bend the metal switch lever so that the lever will make contact with the microswitch.

2. Foot Impulse Sealer

Tighten the small bolt of the limit switch so that it makes contact with the microswitch.

3. Automatic Impulse Sealer

The screw mounted on the upper jaw must be loosened to make contact with the microswitch.

  • Mounting Spring
Make sure the spring is intact. The spring must not be rusted or have wear to ensure heat dissipation from the element. If the spring is damaged, replace it.

  • Impulse Sealer Timer Indicator
The light on the timer should come on when the seal is pulled down. If the light does not come on, replace the timer's PC board.
