How to build a moonshine still step by step.
Step1: Drill a 1/8-inch hole in the lid of the aluminum or copper kettle to act as a distiller.
Step2: Fix the thermometer with Teflon tape or hot melt adhesive.
Step3: Insert the thermometer into the hole just punched out.
Step4: Drill a 3/8 inch hole in the edge of the lid.
Step5: Use a file to smooth the edges of the holes.
Step6: Insert the compression fitting into the hole just punched. Screw the nut of the compression fitting into the hole from the bottom of the cover.
Step7: Fill the gap with a hot melt adhesive to prevent steam leakage.
Step8: Use the other nut of the compression fitting to connect it to one end of the refrigerator coil. Screw the nut onto the nut protruding from the lid of the still.
Step9: Drill a 3/8-inch hole in the bucket about two inches above the base.
Step10: Insert the second compression fitting into the bucket and screw the nut of the other compression fitting into the bucket, also sealed with hot melt adhesive.
Step1: Put the mash pot on the heat source and pour 5 gallons of water, heating until 165 °F.
Step2: When the temperature reaches 165°F, stop heating and pour in 8.5 pounds of corn flakes and stir for 7 minutes.
Step3: Stir the mixture for 30 seconds every 5 minutes until the temperature reaches 152 °F.
Step4: Then add 1.5 pounds of crushed malt barley.
Step5: Continue stirring until the temperature has cooled to 70 °F, then add the yeast. (A cooler can be used to assist in cooling to shorten the time)
Step6: Pour the mixture back and forth between the two containers for 5 minutes to allow air to fill in.
Step7: Pour the mixture into the fermenter for a while.
The production of alcohol revolves basically around two processes: fermentation and distillation. Fermentation is a chemical reaction that occurs when yeast breaks down sugar. One of the productions of this reaction is alcohol. Distillation is the process of evaporating alcohol and collecting steam, then condensing it into liquid.
Remove the seal from the distiller, rinse it with water, then scrub the inside of the seal with a cleaning brush, and store it after natural air drying. Brush the distiller with a brush, then rinse with clean water, air dry, and store in a dry place.
A 5-gallon of moonshine still will produce 1-2 gallons of alcohol. An 8 gallon of a moonshine still will produce 1.5-3 gallons of alcohol. A 10 gallon of moonshine still will produce 2-4 gallons of alcohol.
